Mountain Empire Oil Company has operated in Johnson City, TN since May of 1977. The first convenience store was opened in Greeneville, TN in 1980 under the banner Roadrunner Markets. Mountain Empire Oil Company presently operates fifty-one convenience stores which includes two fuel centers strategically located in three states. Forty-three stores are located in northeast Tennessee, four in southwest Virginia, and four in western North Carolina. Thirty-three stores are branded Shell, and eighteen stores are branded BP. The two fuel centers located in Abingdon, VA and Baileyton, TN are branded Shell. The company has a work force of approximately 500 employees. In addition to quality gasoline, you can find kerosene, diesel, and racing gasoline at many locations. Fourteen stores offer touchless or softcloth car washes. Not only can you stock up on sodas, beer, chips, cigarettes and all the traditional convenience store items, most locations accept a variety of local telephone and electric payments. All stores sell money orders, CoinStar prepaid phone cards including Airlink, Boost, Cingular, Sprint, TracFone, T-Mobile, Verizon, and VirginMobile, giftcards, prepaid long distance cards for U.S., Mexico, and Asia, Airlink prepaid phones, cards, and accessories, Western Union sevice, and ATM sevices.
